The Big Three NEETs is a common gen (combi in Japanese) relationship in the Pokémon fandom, particularity in the Japanese side of the fandom. It's named after the idea that Volkner, Steven Stone and Riley are Not in Education, Employment, or Training, which NEET is an acronym of, though this aspect of them is rarely the subject of fanworks and is itself subjective, (as Volkner's a gym leader.)
The three also my be considered bishounen and might've been drawn together by fans before the label was made.
Canon Background
Popular Tropes & Fanon
Other characters may be considered NEETs and added, such as:[1]
- Eusine, as he has no stated profession in canon.
- Red, since he did not contact anyone while living on Mt. Silver for at least three years.
- N, as he has no stated profession in canon. It was also joked about in the Japanese side of the fandom that N stands for NEET.[1]
- Brycen, in Pokémon Black and White, as in that game he is the only gym leader with no side job, though he was formerly an actor before becoming injured.
