The Comics Code Authority was formed in 1954 by the Comics Magazine Association of America as a censorship authority for comic publishers often compared to the Hays Code. It was formed partly in response to Seduction of the Innocent. Underground Comics as an industry was formed largely in response to its introduction.
Regulations relaxed over the years, and in the 2000s and 2010s, all major comic publishers broke from the authority.
