Defiendepíxeles (a combination of "defiende" (to defend) and "píxeles" (pixels), meaning "pixel defenders" in English) is a mocking term used in the Spanish fandom to refer to people who fiercely defend fictional characters as if they’re real people with legal rights and moral standing that deserve protection. Pixels refer to the characters, to emphasize they're just digital creations. It can also be written separately.
The term is normally used on social media arguments as a jab to the absurdity of treating fictional characters as if they’re flesh-and-blood people, like debates over “problematic” character depictions or shipping wars where fans act like it’s a human rights issue.
It has a lot in common with the term "anti".
Fans against this term argue that they aren't "defending pixels" but fighting against what they represent.[1]
