From The Crooked Timber Of Humanity, also sometimes called Conclave Zine, is a 2025 zine containing meta, fanfiction, and fanart of the 2024 film Conclave. The zine raised over $50,000[1] for the Intersex Human Rights Fund, Freedom Fund, and Librarians and Archivists with Palestine.

Production

The zine's title is sourced from an interview with the film's director.[2]

Peter [Straughan, screenwriter] quoted this German philosopher: ‘Out of the crooked timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made.’ That sort of was at the core of all the characters, and that was interesting to me.

— Edward Berger, [3]

Various written works were crossposted to Archive of Our Own under the username PopeCrave at the end of the preorder period.

Contributors

The zine is divided into four chapters, split up by medium.
