King Kong is the giant ape who is the central monster (or kaiju) in various eponymously named movies, books and comics. He first appeared in the 1933 movie and has since become a household name and pop culture reference, inspiring a variety of media references[1] as well as fandoms.
Canon
Kong is a giant ape, usually resembling a gorilla (or, more specifically, a traditional gorilla costume), whose size has ranged from 20 to 300 feet tall, depending on the reference. He is generally known as the last of his kind, living on Skull Island, which is populated by dinosaurs and other mega-fauna. Like his mundane counterparts he has semi-human intelligence and immense strength. He is something of a sympathetic villain, taken from his home into an alien environment and paraded for amusement. His infatuation with Fay Wray (or various other human women used as bait) also humanizes him.
Over the almost-century since his first appearance, Kong has battled (and mostly defeated), among others, human defences forces, dinosaurs, giant snakes, robots, superheroes and Godzilla.
