Canon
In canon, Leorio and Kurapika are Hunters who first meet during the Hunter Exam. Although initially at odds, they quickly become friends, and they maintain long-distance contact even as Kurapika embarks on a solo quest to avenge his clan and Leorio goes off to medical school to become a doctor.
