Lyta Alexander is a recurring character on the science fiction TV show Babylon 5. She was played by Patricia Tallman.

Canon Background

Lyta Alexander was a human telepath, assigned by the Psi Corps to Babylon 5 as the station's first licensed commercial telepath. She was later physically altered by the Vorlons and played major roles in the Shadow War, the Earth Alliance Civil War, and the Telepath War.[1] In the canonical novels associated with the series, it is implied that she was a driving force behind some events of the Telepath War, during which she perished.[2]

Fan Reaction and Fanon

Multiple threads on Reddit suggest that fans believe Lyta got "the short end of the stick[3]", "done dirty[4]", and deserved better than she was treated[5].

Lyta has one of the most compelling stories in Babylon 5. [Her] story is based on a narrative convention that I particularly hate, that of the powerful woman who can’t handle her own power and ends up mad/evil/dead (usually all three). But thinking about it, I’ve decided that Lyta deserves a place, partly because her complex story subtly undermines this convention. Her descent into destructive behaviour is not caused by her power so much as by the terrible treatment she receives at the hands of just about everyone.

Lyta was portrayed as deaf in the Babylon 5 novel, Clark's Law. However, it has been confirmed that this was not the intent of the program's creators[6].
