Murderbot & ART is the most popular relationship in The Murderbot Diaries book series fandom. Works in this pairing are focused on the relationship between the SecUnit Murderbot and the transport ship Perihelion, who SecUnit calls ART; short for Asshole Research Transport.
Canon
In the second book, Artificial Condition, ART allows Murderbot to stow away on board. ART confronts and eventually befriends the rogue Sec Unit. They bond over media, with Murderbot trading media in exchange for his passage. ART also helps it pass as an augmented human security consultant.
In the fifth book, Network Effect, ART is attacked by alien-infected colonists who capture its crew. With its crew held hostage, ART attacks the new Preservation survey to capture Murderbot. Murderbot fights off the hostiles and ART works with Murderbot and the Preservation team to rescue its crew. At the end of Network Effect, Murderbot decides to accompany ART and his crew on their next mission.

By May 2025, there were almost 600 works on fanfiction website Ao3 featuring the gen relationship between Murderbot and ART.[1]
