In January 2025, a trend around favorite tropes and challenges to those favorite tropes became popular on TikTok.

Using the painting of 'The Drinker' as the background, the slideshows used would start with an image of the half of the painting with the man drinking in and the line 'My favorite trope is...' The second slide would then have the half of the painting with the skeleton from the painting, who would present some kind of challenge to that being a person's favorite trope, typically referencing a psychological or emotional basis, or other analysis for why the person relates to the trope. The slide show usually ends with the entire painting on one slide and no text, implying the person has been challenged into silence because the analysis of them as a person is true in some way.

Over a few days, the trend was altered and subverted, such as having the person interrupt or correct the skeleton slide themselves, or analysing people who are dismissive of tropes.

Slide 1: My favorite trope is when he goes against everything he knows just for her.

Slide 2: Is it? or do you just like the idea of someone caring about you so much that they are willing to sacrifice everything cause no one has ever done that for you?

Slide 3: ...
