Nom de Plume is a Kirk/Spock story by "Mooni" which is a pen name of Andrea Arat which is a pen name of Natasha Solten. The author connects all three names on the title page of the story.

Spock's list

It was published in the print zine First Time #11.

It is meta commentary on fannish pen names. The list of names that Spock makes is a shout out to real people (William Shatner, Dr. Benjamin Spock, David you-know-who [1], Robin Hood), real pen names of various fans (The Southern Cross, Vivian Gates), play on words of other pen names (Velly Jagged, Dova Blaque, The Northern Hexagon), silly fannish pokes (Mary Sue Mundane), pen name tweaks of the story's author (Wendy Wrathsome), and pen names of the story's author's friends (Zoey Brook, Alexis Fegan Black, Christopher Randolph, Faris Vincent).

Summary

"Spock asks Kirk for advise on choosing a pen-name."

Reactions and Reviews

1987

NOM DE PLUME is a clever bit that any fan involved in producing fan literature or editorials is sure to enjoy. [2]

2002

I recently read an old story called Nom de Plume by Mooni in First Time 11, and while I thought the idea in itself was kind of fun, seeing Kirk and Spock trying to come up with pen names for Spock, I didn't really think the story was all that impressive. It was short, and kind of awkwardly written, but the idea was fun [3]

While this was pre-internet, this avoidance of using his full name was also not unlike fans' actions regarding John Ordover's full name.
