Criticism
Many have criticized the Peter & Tony relationship, particularly the MCU iteration, for both its canon and fanon portrayals. Some comics fans feel the positive relationship is forced and unnatural after some bitter conflicts such as the comics' Civil War event--and particularly Peter has relationships that are healthier, more positive, more compelling, and more historied that deserve more emphasis. Some fans feel that the relationship is a black hole or tumor that hijacks Peter Parker's independence and character development. Some fans have criticized fanon portrayals for villainizing Aunt May into an abusive of neglectful guardian for the sake of making Tony into a savior.
Fanon and tropes
Tony Stark being Peter's biological father is a popular trope Tony seeing himself in Peter Lab Time™️ Tony dealing with his daddy issues and struggling to see himself in a guardian role Tony comforting Peter in h/c Peter fics and/or coming to the rescue
Peter hides his identity/age leading to: Tony agonizing over Peter being a child after Civil War AND OFTEN Peter scared of depending on another male figure (they all die lol)
2 broken boys learning to heal together ❤️
Most fics that keep May have the tropes of Aunt May is Scary, she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to Peter and Tony is rightfully scared of losing permission to spend time with Peter. Co-Guardianship
