Samuel R. Delany, born in 1942, is an American science fiction author active since the 60s. He is openly gay and has African-American background. In addition to fiction, he has written criticism. His 1998 article "Racism and Science Fiction" inspired fan activity such as the Carl Brandon Society.
Delany has openly expressed support of NAMBLA (North American Man/Boy Love Association), a controversial and heavily criticized organization with a stated goal of abolishing age-of-consent laws in favor of focusing on their stated standards of sexual coercion.
Fanfiction
Fans have written a tiny amount of fanfiction based on Delany's novels. On AO3, the only books with more than one fic each are Babel-17 (6 works) and Dhalgren (4 works).
