Star Trek: San Antonio (ST:SA) was a longtime Star Trek fan organization dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of the original series, the animated series, and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The club was founded by Madeline Rogers, Helen Padgett, and others during the heyday of the show's syndication in the mid-1970s. Members would gather for food and beverages and watch the broadcast reruns of the series at various member's homes. This eventually led to other outings, film screenings, dinner parties in restaurants, and field trips to museums and other places of scientific interest for members.
Other notable members of this group included Lynn Ward, Sara Breck, Lynda Kaye Boots, Judith Ward, Tony Wynn, Fran Booth, Rebecca Ward, Phyllis Wood, Richard Franco, and Debi Cole.
The club also organized group outings to science fiction and Star Trek conventions throughout Texas and as far afield as Oklahoma and Louisiana.
A number of the club members had an interest in fanfiction and artwork, and published a number of zines, including nine issues of The Ninth Quadrant and two issues of In a Plain Brown Wrapper. Members also helped organized two Star Trek conventions in San Antonio in the 1980s, Trekkon '83 and Trekkon '84.
The Editor's Page in The Ninth Quadrant #8 contained the following comment about ST:SA and their celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Trek, which included special guest Bjo Trimble:
"Another item is about the poem titled ST:SA Held A Fest. ST:SA refers to Star Trek: San Antonio, a local Star Trek fan club located in, of all places, - you guessed it - San Antonio, Texas. Ye ol' editors are practicing a little nepotism by printing this. We all happen to be members of ST:SA. The poem refers to the 20th anniversary party we had last September."[1]
