In the sixth and final installment of Red Hood: The Lost Days (2010), a single page portrays Talia initiating a one night stand with Jason. This page is very controversial,[note 1] to the extent that many fans aggressively ignore its existence. This sexual encounter has been compared to an inappropriate relationship between a foster parent and a foster child, or a teacher and a student, and has even been described as statutory sexual assault due to DC timeline clues that imply Jason isn't yet 18 years old.
- Some fans believe Jason's skill as a criminal mastermind indicates mentally competent enough to fully consent to sex.
- Some fans point to canon evidence that their sexual encounter took place before Jason's 18th birthday, and therefore it's extra creepy for an adult to sleep with an underage teenager.
- Some fans point out that the age of consent in New Jersey was 16 years old at the time of publication, and therefore the sexual encounter doesn't meet the legal definition of statutory sexual assault.
The Jason/Talia relationship has been compared to other controversial relationships in DCU canon such as Slade Wilson/Tara Markov, Terry Long/Donna Troy, Bruce Wayne/Barbara Gordon,[note 2] and Dick Grayson/Selina Kyle.

Notes
- ^ though not as infamous as the contemporary retcon (subsequently retconned out of existence) of Talia conceiving a child by sexually assaulting Bruce Wayne
- ^ specifically in the comic Batman Beyond 2.0 and in the animated adaptation of The Killing Joke); the ship is not considered controversial for The LEGO Batman Movie
