Reactions and Reviews
1992
Post-STV is not ay idea of an ideal time period for Kirk and Spock to start a relationship, but this story had the characters behaving more maturely (except for Spock's decision to leave Kirk) than in most first timers, so I quickly forgot the unlikelihood of the setting. This story had some nice touches: Spock explaining that for me. Sybok died forty standard years ago: McCoy instantly knowing, upon seeing a complete stranger, that she had been Kirk's evening companion: the freshness of characters Casio and Simpson (I could have used another scene or two with them.) I thought this story a tad long for not having a particularly dramatic climax. I also wasn't very agreeable to Spock not telling Kirk "the whole truth" regarding the death bond. Otherwise, this was a refreshingly mature read and a solid story. [1]
A very good story about the love of two middle-aged men. They know that they aren't in for the whole life anymore, but they know also that they'll have many rich and wonderful years together. It's a very positive, optimist story! [2]
