The Dallas Brawl is an furry gen and het role playing APA started by Mel White.
The APA was monthly, which was frequent for such a publication.
The Dallas Brawl was originally called "The Waitlister's Brawl."
The APA was a waitlist for people who were waiting to join the Barr Wars.
In late 1997, Flinthoof and Tibo of Jarlidium Press took over the helm, operating the Brawl until the end of 2002. In January 2003, a long-standing player, Furet at Rhatagraphics Press, took over the project.
From the cover of a 1997 issue: "A Monthly A.P.A. of Madness, Mayhem, and Cartoonery done by some exceedingly STRANGE people."
Hybrid APA?
Most APAs were available only to members and not sold elsewhere. The cost of the APA was mailing costs, and they were shared by the members.
This APA, as described by a fan below, was available or a fee. The APAs themselves had a price listed on the cover ($3-$5).
Descriptions
In 1992, a fan described it:
Run by Mel White & Joy Riddle. An artist apa, similar to Bizzare Wars. Artists characters getting together and interacting with out another in a challenging setting where a 'war' situation is in effect. Requires good humor, a sharp pencil, and the ability not to take yourself too seriously. The best way to get into this is to simply 'run' up and hit someone. Sample copies (to start from) are about $4.00, ask about availability. Currently, there are about 30 members. [1]
Sample: September 1992 Issue
