The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a streaming television series based on the works of J.R.R Tolkien. The series adapts events set during the Second Age, a thousand years before The Hobbit, with the rights to The Lord of the Rings and its appendices. It is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and premiered on September 1, 2022 on Prime Video.

Canon

Though, The Rings of Power adapts the Second Age of Middle-earth, the series is limited to the television rights of The Lord of the Rings books and its appendices. Producers work directly in conjunction with the Tolkien Estate on all scripts.

The first season begins just as Sauron returns to Middle-earth, but with his whereabouts unknown. The second season portrays "Annatar" and the forging of the Rings of Power alongside Celebrimbor. A planned five-season arc is set to depict the rise of the Dark Lord, the War of the Elves and Sauron, forging of the One Ring, the Fall of Númenor and the Last Alliance.

Tolkien characters from the Legendarium include, Galadriel, Sauron, Elrond, Isildur, Gandalf, Celebrimbor, Gil-galad, Durin IV, Elendil, Tar-Míriel, Pharazôn and Tom Bombadil.

Original characters introduced in the series include, Arondir, Adar, Elanor Brandyfoot, Poppy Proudfellow, Theo, Bronwyn, Eärien and the Orc, Glûg.
