The Silence and The Song was a Dragon Age fanfic which faced controversy when a fan accused it of being at least partly AI generated, based on factors such as the word count and the syntactic structure. The story dealt with darker themes of abuse, and many fans found it especially insensitive to use AI to write on these topics, especially without disclosing the usage of AI if such were the case. Others criticized these accusations as baseless and bullying, while some readers of the story believed the analysis and were devastated to learn this.
The author made the story private due to the backlash received shortly after, but has since then edited the fic heavily based on feedback and has once again made it available to be read.[1] The fic is now anonymised.
Summary
“Vhenan.”The word broke the silence, soft but laced with emotion. She froze, her breath hitching, before turning to meet Solas’ gaze. He stood at the edge of the garden, his pale eyes wide and stricken.
Then he saw them—dark bruises, stark against the pale skin of her throat, blooming like cruel reminders of another’s hands.
His knees buckled, and he fell before her, his trembling hands hovering as if afraid to touch. “What has he done to you?” His voice cracked, raw with anguish and fury.
“Solas, please,” she whispered, her voice hoarse, broken.
But his head shook violently, his expression twisting with a rage she had never seen before. “I will kill him,” he vowed, his voice low and trembling with conviction. “By the Fade, by my own hand, I swear it—He will pay for this.”
