Reactions and Reviews

1976

In 'Trial by Ordeal,' C.R. Faddis movingly depicts the physical and mental sacrifices McCoy must make to save Spock's life. It's a get-McCoy story (with a little get-Spock) but the gore is kept in its place by the author's grasp of characterization so that the people come out on top, not the suffering. Appropriate illos by Kathi Maynard. [2]

1984

If you like a good McCoy get-um, then get out the crying towel. This is, without a doubt, the best story of its kind that I've ever read. McCoy is rescued after being a prisoner of a savage society for four months, but the man that Kirk gets back would rather be dead. The doctor suffered unspeakable horrors to protect a secret he can't even remember: what happened to Spock? Is he dead? If he is, did McCoy kill him?

This is Faddis at her very best, and she really knows how to twist the knife. Don't miss it! [3]
