Hi, I’m catchyouintherye. I go by Rye (she/her).
About Myself
My username tips its hat to J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye (1951), but ironically, my favorite book is Donna Tartt’s The Secret History (1992).
By day, I’m a historian. I hold degrees in History, English, and educational science; by night, I trade the academic hat for a writer’s pen. Furthermore, I’m a proud moderator for Fanlore and several Minecraft Speedrunning communities – on Discord as well as Twitch.
Supporting the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) on the backend feels like my own small way of giving back to a project that’s inspired me for years.
What Fanfiction Means to Me
Fanfiction represents the full potential of human creativity. It’s a world where imagination knows no bounds, where writers and readers alike can reimagine characters, explore alternate realities, and create stories that resonate deeply with them. This limitless creativity is matched by a vibrant global community that stands out for its sheer size and engagement. Few other creative spaces can rival the connection and energy that fanfiction enthusiasts bring to their craft.
What makes fanfiction even more special is its inclusivity. There’s truly something for everyone—a genre, a pairing, a trope, or a storyline that speaks directly to each individual. It’s a space where anyone can find a corner to call home, no matter their interests or preferences.
In this world, the only boundaries are the ones we set for ourselves. Fanfiction invites us to push past those limits, experiment, and share our stories in ways that feel meaningful and authentic. It’s a celebration of creativity, community, and the endless possibilities of storytelling.
To me, fanfiction is something I discovered, truly discovered and engaged with, on a November night. It was like a found a new universe that suddenly opened its doors to me. I will be forever grateful for the outlet and community I found and thrive in.
